Can I complete the SAP evaluation remotely?+
DOT allows face-to-face remote evaluation at the SAP’s discretion when licensing, secure real-time audio/video, and other regulatory requirements are met. Confirm the format during intake.
What if I am a CDL driver without an employer?+
You can begin with a SAP evaluation. FMCSA describes a limited C/TPA route for eligible drivers without a current or prospective employer to complete the RTD test and report a negative result. An employer administers follow-up testing when safety-sensitive work resumes.
Is treatment included in $499?+
No. The $499 fee covers the listed SAP professional services. Education or treatment, testing, employer or TPA charges, and outside providers are separate.
Does a SAP follow-up evaluation let me drive immediately?+
No. A favorable SAP determination must come before the applicable RTD test. DOT result requirements and employer decisions also apply before safety-sensitive work.
How long will the process take?+
It depends on the individualized assessment, recommended education or treatment, completion, follow-up determination, and testing. A completion or return date cannot be promised in advance.
Will the SAP clear my Clearinghouse violation?+
The SAP reports the specified assessment and eligibility dates for FMCSA drivers. The employer or qualifying C/TPA reports a negative RTD result under applicable rules. The underlying record is subject to FMCSA retention rules.
