Designate a SAP.
Register in the FMCSA Clearinghouse and designate the qualified SAP you choose. The SAP must accept the designation before entering RTD information.
For CDL drivers
Your Clearinghouse status has several handoffs.
The Clearinghouse records specific milestones. The driver, SAP, and employer or qualifying C/TPA do different things.
Report the dates.
The SAP reports the initial assessment date and, after a successful follow-up determination, the date of eligibility for RTD testing.
Direct the RTD test.
An employer intending to return a driver to safety-sensitive duty ensures the test. FMCSA describes a limited route through a C/TPA for a driver with no current or prospective employer.
Carry out follow-up testing.
The employer administers the SAP’s prescribed plan when the driver resumes safety-sensitive work and reports its successful completion as applicable.
