The SAP conducts an individualized assessment and sends the required written report to the designated employer representative, with recommendations for education and/or treatment.
The SAP evaluates and documents; the employer determines whether and when to return an employee to safety-sensitive duty.

Following documented completion, the SAP determines whether the employee demonstrated successful compliance and provides the required follow-up report.
If the employer intends to return the employee to safety-sensitive duty, the applicable RTD test must occur after the SAP’s favorable determination and meet DOT result requirements.
The employer administers the SAP’s follow-up testing plan. The SAP does not schedule or conduct employer testing.
